I’m Nicole, the founder of The Hair Tool Studio and a breast cancer survivor.

The idea for The Hair Tool Studio came while my husband and I were planning a trip to Paris for our 10-year anniversary. We had planned a photoshoot in front of the Eiffel Tower, and my first thought was, what am I going to do with my hair?

My favorite styling tools wouldn’t work overseas due to voltage differences, and the alternatives I tried didn’t deliver the results I needed.

The solution wasn’t out there. So I created it myself.

At 34 years old, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. One of the very first things I asked my doctor was whether I would lose my hair.

She told me about something called cold capping, a treatment that can help reduce hair loss during chemotherapy. I had never heard of it before, but the idea that there was something that might help me keep my hair made going through treatment feel just a little bit easier.

During my six rounds of chemotherapy, I used cold capping. I was grateful to keep a lot of my hair, but I still experienced significant thinning. My hair lost about half of its thickness, and now I’m in the process of growing it back, with lots of little regrowth hairs along the way.

That experience changed my perspective on confidence, identity, and the role something as simple as hair can play in how you feel day to day.
